VICTORY FOR POMPEY [Series RADIO VICTORY ARCHIVE]: Radio Victory transmission entitled Victory for Pompey, which has two bands. The first band is a recording of Pompey vs Northampton football match played on 17 May 1980 at Northampton County Ground. The score was 2-0 which meant promotion to 3rd Division for Portsmouth. The second band covers victory celebrations at Portsmouth Guildhall Square the same evening. Presented by RICHIE STEVENS. TRACK 1- In - Sounds of crowd at football match with commentary. Victory jingle. Description of play and jubilation at Pompey’s win and promotion to 3rd division [also decided on basis of other matches being played]. Interviews with players STEVE DAVY and PETER MELLOR. Out - Sounds of crowd celebrating. TRACK 2- In - I would just like to say ... Victory celebrations at Portsmouth Guildhall Square. Music Description of players standing at Guildhall; crowd singing. LORD MAYOR’S speech - congratulates Pompey F.C. on behalf of other fans. JOHN DEACON [chairman] - thanks fans for support. FRANK BURROWS [manager] -thanks fans, asks for chimes, and wishes for safe journey home. PETER MELLOR [Pompey Club captain] -thanks fans for their support on behalf of players, also thanks to John Deacon, Frank Burrows and backroom staff. JOE LAIDLAW team captain - thanks fans for home and away support - this is the beginning of climb to division 1. Thanks players for efforts. Introduction of players individually by PETER MELLOR. Voted best sports programme in 1980 Local Radio Awards. This CD may be lacking on the left channel. This is due to a quantity of deposit on the top half of the Otari’s playback head. The fault has now been rectified.
