- Pick of 1979: interviews from The Late Show: April/May 1979 - Tracks 1-4 April; Tracks 5-8 May. NB intros are not on tape. TRACK 1- Interview with COUNT NICOLAI TOLSTOY - Victims of Yalta. He told Paul what the liaison was between Russia and England that enabled the two countries to ensure that over 2 million Russians were forced to return to Russia at the end of the war. Some of the situations that occurred were extraordinary and that is where we take up the story. Out- Rather than go back to the camps of Gulag. TRACK 2- DONALD ZEC - The Deal. Hollywood Columnist had a novel about Hollywood stars and their manipulation published in 1979. It is calle: The Deal. Paul Brown asked him how accurate a picture of Hollywood his novel was. TRACK 3- JONATHAN GREEN - Famous Last Words. Jonathan Green has compiled a dictionary of famous last words. It has been done before but what is so special about his? TRACK 4- CHARLTON HESTON - published his journals 1956-1976, in 1979, sparing 20 years in the movie industry. Often killed at the end of his films and frequently doing very physical trips like the Chariot Race in Ben Hur. He likes to keep in tip top physical condition. TRACK 5- JACK WARNER - British film and television actor. Born in London October 24, 1896. His real name is Horace John Waters. In show business for 50 years. Most famous recently as Dixon of Dock Green, which debuted in 1955. He talked also about his part in the film The Blue Lamp. TRACK 6- ED McBAIN. His real name is Salvatore Albert Lombino. Born in New York City on October 15, 1926. He talks about his life and his career. He made a career famous for writing and screenwriter. In 1952 he legally adopted another name as EVAN HUNTER. But, he is even better known as ED MCBAIN, a name he used for most of his crime fiction beginning in 1956, when he debuted with his first novel in the 87th Precinth crime series. TRACK 7- Col. MAURICE BUCKMASTER - the man encharged of the Special Operations Executive. Born January 11, 1902. He was the leader of this French section during the World War II. He talks about Odette, one of the most famous secret agents. But there were other lady operators who went through the war undetected. TRACK 8- IRENE THO... - a remarkable career as opera and popular singer. These days, she is one of Britain’s biggest brains. She talks about her life and her career. [Box 6]
