- The chairman of Reading and Oxford have spoken out for the first time on their proposed merger of the two clubs. For 90 minutes at the Football Association they told newsmen of their plans for the new joint club. And Oxford’s Robert Maxwell expressed the hope that the three directors on the Reading board who had spoken out against their chairman would rejoin them and work for a combined future. [Box 5]
