- Local politicians have been reacting to the SDP/Liberal win at Glasgow Hillhead. In last night’s election there was a swing of 16.7 percent from the conservatives to the social democrats, but Reading North Conservative MP Tony Durant says he is unduely worried by the result. Meanwhile Labour’s Lawrence Silverman says there is no chance of the social democrat Liberal alliance taking over locally in forthcoming elections. And Tony Richards, prospective liberal parliamentary candidate says the future now looks bright for the alliance locally. [Box 5]
