- Description
- CBI plead to Berkshire County Council not to put rates up 40 per cent. It will mean lost jobs they say. Bob Morrison reports. Today’s already high unemployment figures will rise still higher if Berkshire County Council goes ahead with its plan to increase rates by up to forty per cent, that is the claim of local businessmen. Nach councillor has been sent a letter appealing to them to think again before pushing up the rates. John Fowles, the vice-chairman of the CBI’s Souther region, says Berkshire businesses will be forced to make people redundant if they are faced with such high rate bills. [Box 5]
