Description
Two reports of parliamentary comment. First report on 26-01-1982. Second report on 27-01-1982. Wokingham Conservative MP Sir William Van Straubenzee has hit out in the Commons at anti-nuclear protestors opposed to the siting of Cruise missiles at Greenham Common. He said most people in Berkshire realised the missile were necessary, and the best way to avoid a third world war was the robust maintenance of Britain’s defences. Armed Forces Minister Peter Blaker confirmed the first missiles would be installed at the end of 1983 and he said Greenham Common would not become a special target if war broke out. [Box 5]
