- Mike Matthews this week visits the village life of Marsh Benham. It lies 2 miles West of Newbury just off the A4, in Berkshire. The programme has 3 tracks. Track 1- One interview at the headquarters of the North Data company, and he talks to Geoffrey, the marketing manager. He also talks about the village and says that film makers uses this place to make historical films. On Track 2, - 3 interviews: 1- The famous local pub The Red House and talks to Peter, the landlord. Every Sunday, he puts a steam train in the pub garden, for children to ride on. He talks about the pub history and the house that is 200 years old. 2- Mike Matthews talks to the man who actually made the train for this pub. Talks about his work and the 12 trains like the model in the pub he has made. 3- Matthews visits the home of Roy, an archaeologist who found ancient sites in the village, not far away from the river. There are half a dozen sites like that in the area and they found already animal bones, and other finds over 9,000 years old. On Track 3, there is only one interview, with the vice-president of British Balloon Airship Club, Marshall David. Mike Matthews visits him in the farm where they make air maps. Marshall David explains all about ballooning and his own experience, talks about the ballooning history in this area. He always had a great interest on this subject. There is another factory in Bristol where they make the air ships. [Box 4]
