- Description
- One place with three names: 1- Upper Bucklebury; 2- Bucklebury village; 3- Bucklebury Common. This place is famous for grand avenues with oak trees. It lies in Berkshire, dating back to pre-Norman times including the church, that is detailed in the Domesday Book. In Upper Bucklebury, Mike Matthews goes to his first visit and talks to Cecilia Milson, a local historian. She tells the story of the village. The second visit is to The Manor, and talks with William. He talks about the story of the family that lived there before and the story of the Manor. Then, he says: if we leave Upper Bucklebury, there is Bucklebury village, and we can find the home of Gordon Ashman, a farmer and businessman. He keeps horses and other animals mainly for transport. He runs an animal transport company and is able to send and import horses to everywhere in the world sometimes using airplanes. He talks about his life and his business. Another interview is with a lady, Winiford Fleming. She produces plays for the Amateur Theatre in the village. Then, Mike Matthews talks with the oldest resident in this village: Regie. He was born in 1894 and he talks about his memories of the war and village life when he was young. Leaving Bucklebury village, we find Bucklebury Common. There is place named The Triangle, and there is the home of Bob Milson. He has lived here all his life and tells the story of the place. One of his jobs was to keep clear the 300 paths in the parish. The last interview is with Michael McNeil Wilson, a Conservative MP for local area. He is interested in old cars and talks about this subject. [Box 4]
