Village Life: Witchchurch and Witchurch Hill - nd [1986]
Description
Mike Matthews in association with Vincent’s BMW. Today our journey takes us to Whitchurch and Witchurch Hill, in Hampshire. It lies on the B471, just North of Pangbourne. The first door he knocked on was that of Robert Noble. He tells the history of Witchurch and the meaning of the word Manor. A second visit is to the Post-Office and Mike Matthews talks with Linda Day. She talks about the history of the village. A third interview is with Tom Reay, who tells the story of the Bridge in the town. Another visit to the Whitchurch Church. Mike Matthews talks to Richard Hughes, the rector, that explains the difference between rector and vicar and describes the church history. Another interview with Lady Rose, that owns an old house in the outskirts of the village. She says the house is 400 years-old and the story goes as far back as 1546. Continuing his journey, Mike Matthews goes just outside Whitchurch Hill and finds a Photographic Club and talks with Ken Holding, the owner. And finally, his last interview is with Max Tyrol, the manager of the Castrol House. He tells all the history of this family and how their name became a famous brand for industrial and automatic lubricants. [Box 4]
