Description
Mike Matthews talks to Iris Butcher, the wife of James Butcher, the founder of Housing Association. She talks about her life and how her husband started this project in Reading in 1965. He thought that there were so many big houses with empty rooms, and had the idea to transform those houses in smaller flats, in such a way that they could manage to fit more people in. His idea went long way, not only in Reading, but all over England, then Northern Ireland. The programme was re-transmitted on 23rd November 1982. [Box 4]
