Description
Police have been searching all day for two men missing in the swollen waters of the River Thames. A man is missing at Bray after police with dogs chased two men suspected of breaking into the Oakley Court Hotel. They vanished into the river. One man was later arrested soaking wet, but the other is deared to have been swept away by the fast flowing current. At Shiplake, lock keeper Peter Gough is believed drowned after falling into the river as he tried to free wood jammed in the wier. 59-year-old Mr. Gough had been lock keeper at Shiplake for nearly 30 years. The Thames Conservancy’s chief navigation inspector Darryl Cruickshank says he’ll be missed by many. [Box 3]
