2 reports on 02-05-1981 [?]. Three people have died in a hotel fire at Reading in Berks. Firemen found the bodies of two men and a woman as they searched through the smokefilled rooms of the historic George Hotel in the centre of the town. Fifty guests had been evacuated, firemen had helped several people down ladders from the upper floors of the hotel. Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The blaze is believed to have started on the first floor of the centuries-old building but around 35 firemen were able to contain it quickly and damage is slight. As the firecrews arrived guests were breaking windows to escape the thick smoke chocking their rooms. Guest Roger Turnell speaks about. [Box 2]
