On track 1, the son [Steven Howarth] of the deceased man,speaks to the public about the inquest into the death of the Bracknell Bomb disposal expert Ken Howarth, who died trying to defuse a bomb in London’s Oxford Street last autumn, which has recorded a verdict of unlawful killing. Steven Howarth, the 21 year old son of the dead man, was at the inquest in London, and says the hearing has cleared up some unanswered questions in his own mind. Track 2- Three months later. The 49 year old expert, who was married with 2 children, was trying to defuse an IRA bomb planted in a Wimpy Bar - when it exploded killing him instantly. That was October the 26th 1981 almost immediatley a fund was opened at Scotland Yard in his memory, and money has poured in bringing the total to more than One Hundred thousand pounds. Steven Howarth, Ken’s 21 year old son, says the response and generosity of total strangers has touched the whole family. See also AV769/426/S1. [Box 2]
