He had a hope to become a novelist, but his best books are: The Wood Magic [1881], then Bevis, The Story of a Boy, and The Story of My Heart. Died on 14 August 1887, aged 39, of Festula probably a consequence of TB. The readings are the distilation of the best of his essays Field and Hedgerow. Includes literary works.
