Padraig Coyle traces the conflict in Europe following Hitler’s rise to power through some of the soldiers and civilians whose lives were changed forever by Hitler’s dream of world domination. Among those featured are Patrick Kelly, ordained to the priesthood in France, suspected of being a member of Resistance who found himself on the Gestapo’s blacklist; Christabel Bielenberg, a German citizen through marriage who witnessed the effect of the Nazi regime and whose husband was suspected of being involved in the plot to assassinate Hitler; and Mary Doolan, who worked in the arsenal at Bridge End, South Wales, where the workforce turned out bombs and ammunition 24 hours a day.
