- Drummer and bandleader Mel Lewis talks to Keith Howell during a visit to London at the end of July 1988. Mel talks about his early experiences as a percussionist in the Second World War, his work with the bands of Woody Herman, Stan Kenton and with Benny Goodman on the historic tour of the Soviet Union in 1962. Along with other musical illustrations Mel also discusses his association with Gerry Mulligan and the Concert Jazz Band ... and the formation of his jazz orchestra with the late trumpeter Thad Jones.
