Three hundred years ago on September 3rd (1685), Dame Alice Lisle of Moyles Court near Ringwood was executed for giving shelter to two supporters of the Monmouth Rebellion. Now Vesper Hunter, an author who used to live at Moyles Court and whose life bears an uncanny resemblance, in many aspects, to Dame Alice’s, has written a diary of one year in Alice Lisle’s life. In this programme Sean Street talks to Vesper Hunter about the diary, the similarities between both women’s lives, and Vesper Hunter reads extracts from her book.
