Most arrived between 1979 and 1981, but how have they fared since and what strains have unemployment and adjusting to an alien culture, and a foreign language, placed upon the Vietnamese families? The programme concentrates on one part of the country, the North-East of England, where the boat people have struggled to find their place in British society.
