The Boat people: a new home and a new life

Title
The Boat people: a new home and a new life
Date
1986
Description
Glen Oglaza looks at the fate of the Vietnamese boat people who, after being forced to leave their own country in the most hazardous conditions, made their way here. Most arrived between 1979 and 1981, but how have they fared since and what strains have unemployment and adjusting to an alien culture, and a foreign language, placed upon the Vietnamese families? The programme concentrates on one part of the country, the North-East of England, where the boat people have struggled to find their place in British society.
