Description
M. R. James classic story has been adapted by Stephen Mulrine who has written fifty hours of radio drama, including serials for both ILR and the BBC. Set at Christmas time in the early 1900’s it tells an intriguing tale centred around a strange, frightening recluse who claims to be an alchemist. Edward Dunning, a leading authority on alchemy, turns down a paper submitted by the alchemist to the Antiquaries Association. Dunning becomes uneasy when he discovers that, some years before, a reviewer who gave the alchemist’s book, ‘History of Witchcraft’, a bad review died in unusual circunstances. He becomes convinced that the alchemist has put a curse on him which will result in his death, unless within ten days he can return the curse to the alchemist - who has ‘gone to ground’.
