Silverstone: the end of an era

Title
Silverstone: the end of an era
Date
1986
Description
This programme is particularly topical as the Silverstone Circuit has been awarded the Formula One British Grand Prix for the next five years commencing 1987. Jimmy Brown retired last year (1985) as Managing Director of Silverstone circuit after thirty-seven years at the Northamptonshire race track. He was responsible for turning what was an abandoned airfield into the home of British racing driving and of the British racing drivers’ club. He supervised the construction of the first track for Silverstone’s inaugural Grand Prix in 1948, and since then he’s overseen all twenty two Grand Prix there. During the course of his career Jimmy’s known all the greats the sport has produced and in this documentary two of them, Jackie Stewart and Stirling Moss, give their recollections of Silverstone.
