The Charities’ commercials controversy

Title
The Charities’ commercials controversy
Date
1987
Description
Charities, voluntary organisation workers and media folk whose work involves community issues met in early July for the Social Action Broadcasting Conference at Sussex University. The burning issue was the imminent introduction of permission for charities to buy advertising time in Independent TV and Radio, and the dangers this could pose to smaller charities and the future of (non-commercial) public service broadcasting. This feature consists of interviews with the IBA’s Director General, John Whitney, and senior charity figures at the Conference.
