General: UPSTREAM was Ford’s first film reflecting the influence of the German director F. W. Murnau, who had arrived at Ford’s studio, Fox, in 1926 to begin work on SUNRISE (1927).
History: The film was considered to be lost until a print was discovered in the New Zealand Film Archive in 2009. The preservation work was carried out by Park Road Post Production in Wellington under the direction of Twentieth Century Fox and the [US] Academy Film Archive. Upstream re-premiered in Los Angeles on September 1st, 2010.
