Macbeth

Synopsis
Fiction film version of Macbeth directed by André Calmettes with Paul Mounet and Jeanne Delvair as the Macbeths. The film owed much to theatrical convention. Ball (op cit) comments ‘Actors are forever entering or leaving the scene as if they were on a stage, and the frequency with which the technique is used makes identification of characters in the rapidly paced and shifting episodes at times impossible. Talk and gesture which would interpret a play become empty or extravagant when there is no sound’.
