Within a Play
- Synopsis
- US television documentary. When in 2003 the fledgling American Shakespeare Theatre Company took a contemporary production of Hamlet with a raceblind and genderblind cast on tour in Taiwan, filmmaker Mark P. Ring joined them to document the process. Stage director Robert Anderson, artistic director Wayne Pyle and the rest of the cast and crew offer their personal impressions on camera as they travel and perform around the country. Impossibly short rehearsals, non-stop travel, exhaustion, volatile group dynamics, political unrest, cultural differences, half-finished theatres, wild dogs and monkey bites are only a few of the many challenges they encounter on the road.
