Synopsis
Explores the problematic relationship between event, text and performance in Shakespeare’s Henry V. Also focuses on the way war, and images of war, are presented on stage and on film. In five sections: 1) background and influences of Olivier’s film HENRY V; 2) re-enacting the battle of Agincourt in the present day; 3) likely expectations and experiences of an audience in 1600; 4) difficulties experiences in staging Henry V from 1600 into the 20th century; the story of Shakespearean reconstruction in the present, including the new Globe Theatre and a workshop on Shakespearean battles.
