Your Paintings is a website developed by the BBC and the Public Catalogue Foundation (known now as Art UK) to create a complete record of the United Kingdom’s national collection of oil, tempera and acrylic paintings and make this accessible to the public. The site can be searched by artist, by gallery or other institution, and by what’s in a painting, for example the subject of a portrait, places depicted, or objects such as trees and houses. The subject access is somewhat unwieldy to use and often brings up very large numbers of ‘hits’. The quality of the images is generally excellent and displayed alongside details of the gallery where it can be seen. To support the project for schools the site offers a range of online resources including: slideshows of paintings with ideas for use in the classroom; profiles of careers in the art world; and a guide to artistic styles and movements.

A database designed to assist research into British artists’ film and video. It covers experimental and avant-garde film, video art, artists’ television, gallery-based installations and other works that use moving image and audio-visual multimedia technologies, made by British and British-based artists.
The database provides as comprehensive information as possible about several thousand works, including the date of making, first exhibition site (if known), the original format and often a short synopsis. It is also a guide to the dispersed national collection of British artists’ moving image works. It identifies the holdings of public and academic collections, archives, distributors and dealers, their location and conditions of access.

The British Postal Museum and Archive has a series of podcasts on aspects of the British postal service. Some focus on philately and design, looking at how the work of artists such as Eric Ravilious and Barnett Freedman has shaped public perception of the Post Office. Other podcasts consider social and political aspects of the Post Office’s history. In one example Tony Benn speaks about how he created the National Girobank during his time as Postmaster General. In another Dr Katherine Rake speaks about an incident in 1909 when two suffragettes posted themselves to 10 Downing Street, in an attempt to deliver a message personally to Prime Minister Herbert Asquith.
