In Autumn 2011 the Film Archive Forum relaunched as Film Archives UK. Film Archives UK represents the UK’s public sector film and television archives (the BFI’s National Film and Television Archive, the Imperial War Museum Film & Video Archive, the Scottish Screen Archive, the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, and the various English regional film archives). These archives care for the moving image heritage of the nation, collecting, preserving and providing access to screen history from the birth of film to the present day. The site includes policy documents, guides to access (including online delivery), and advice on aspects of film archiving.

At the start of April 2001 the Wales Film and Television Archive and the National Library of Wales’ Sound and Moving Image Collection merged to form the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales. The archive holds the national film, television and sound collection for Wales. A representative selection of titles can be searched through its online catalogue. A member of the Film Archives UK body (formerly Film Archives Forum).

FIAF is a collaborative association of the world’s leading film archives whose purpose is to ensure the proper preservation and exhibition of the motion picture heritage. The site includes addresses and contact details for all member film archives, details of FIAF publications, conferences, educational activities, and the FIAF code of ethics. AHDS Performing Arts was set up to collect, document, preserve and promote the use of digital resources to support research and teaching across the broad field of the performing arts: music, film, broadcast arts, theatre, dance. The Online Collections section of the web site contains links to a wide range of AHDS-sponsored digital collections relating to the performing arts. Funding for this project ended in 2008, but some of the content is still available.

The BFI National Archive is the national collection of film and television, comprising some 600,000 titles. It aims to collect, preserve, restore and then share the UK’s moving image heritage. The site includes information on preservation, catalogues, research access, footage sales and special projects. The catalogues include such subjects as the Boer War, British Silent Comedy Films, DVD Hire, Ethnic Notions, Spanish Civil War, and Disability and the Moving Image. It also includes the BFI collection of stills, posters and designs. The Archive’s film and television holdings are included in the BFI’s Film and TV Database. A member of the Film Archives UK body (formerly Film Archives Forum).

The South West Film and Television Archive (SWFTA) is the regional film archive for the South West of England. Established in 1993, it is one of the largest regional film archives in the UK and holds the Westward Television and TSW (Television South West) independent television collections as well as a significant number of donated film collections, both amateur and professional. The Archive is able to sell copies of some of its holdings on DVD. The SWFTA is a member of Film Archives UK.
