The new BBC Royal Charter was approved on 16th November 2016, setting out details of how the BBC will operate under the new Charter. Under the Charter, Ofcom will be the BBC’s first external regulator, with the date for the transfer of regulation given as April 3 2017. This document sets out Ofcom’s plans for how they will regulate the BBC over the course of the new charter, describing the roles of the BBC and Ofcom as well as how Ofcom will start putting out an Operating framework for the BBC which will include elements of regulation across Performance, Content Standards and Competition.

The link to the page on Ofcom’s website gathers together consultations, news releases and other information relating to Ofcom and the BBC. It covers the period from September 2016 when the draft Charter and Agreement were published, until 3 April 2017 when the transfer of regulation becomes effective.
