Description
This booklet features essays by a number of academics who give their individual views on how the UK copyright and intellectual property framework needs to be changed to reflect the needs of researchers in the digital age. The essays cover a range of areas, and generate a number of suggestions, including a call to extend fair dealing provisions under UK copyright
law to bring them into line with fair use doctrine in the US; allowing the use of orphan works and addressing the issue of text mining and data indexing. What unites all the contributions is a plea that the needs of teachers, researchers and creative artists, as well as rights holders, be acknowledged in any future legislation.
