Description
This directive, also known as also known as the Information Society Directive, the European Copyright Directive or the InfoSoc Directive, deals with the harmonisation of aspects of copyright and related rights in the information society. The directive came into force in June 2001 and was supposed to be introduced into national law in EU member states by 22 December 2002. The directive came about following lobbying by the film, television and music industries, who were concerned about the threats of digital technology to their intellectual property rights.
