BRITISH AGRICULTURAL ARCHIVE FILM UNIT

Description
The private collection was inaugurated in 1981, as the increase in the use of video created the demise of 16mm film. The object of the Archive was to trace, salvage and preserve all gauges of film, amateur and professional, relating to the development of agriculture and allied industries, assembling it into a specialist reference library for the industry. The oldest film dates back to 1908. The main period covered is the 1930s to the 1960s, with others up to the present day. Now also holds the Milk Marketing Board Film Library and a substantial proportion ( ie some 400 films) of the Massey Ferguson Tractors Ltd collection. Material held by the Archive has been used in the television series Green and Pleasant Land and the film Operation Harvester (about farming during World War II.)
