Description
The BBC Written Archives Centre holds the BBC’s permanent written records from 1922 to c1980. These form an important source not only for programmes but also for research into broadcasting history, biography, social and political concerns, music, drama and education. They include the BBC’s correspondence with prominent organisations and individuals - politicians, writers, musicians, entertainers and sportsmen, as well as files on radio and television programmes, policy and all other aspects of the Corporation’s work. Holdings include BBC publications, radio and television scripts, news bulletins, daily programme-as-broadcast logs of output and indexes for national programmes. Topics include moral standards, popular taste. broadcasting overseas, social issues, wartime propaganda, etc, including information on BBC overseas services, regions, audiences and press reaction, facts, dates, signature tunes and firsts.
