UNIVERSITY OF ULSTER AT COLERAINE, THE FILM AND SOUND RESOURCE UNIT
- Description
- The collection was established in 1970 to locate and collect local archive films and film relating to course teaching, primarily in the Faculty of Humanities. Attention has increasingly focused on the acquisition of audio-visual material relating to the history of the last 30 years in Northern Ireland. Amateur, documentary, feature film, news and current affairs material is included. There is also over 85 hours of programme material from Ulster Television reflecting its range of output from 1959. In addition there are sound broadcasting tapes on history and current affairs. The University is one of the 6 public sites in Northern Ireland to house a PC based digital film archive containing over 50 hours of Northern Ireland’s archive film (see Northern Ireland Digital Film Archive description under entry for Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.)
