Description
The TUA Film Collection was established in the 1970s to support Rob Foxon’s archive Railway film shows. It has subsequently developed to encompass other forms of transport (road, aircraft, shipping etc.) and British history and forms a useful resource for researchers seking specialised documentary footage. The collection dates from 1895 to the present day and forms the source material for Rob’s nationwide Railways Remembered and Bygone Britain archive film shows. The local history collection is now formed into the Leicestershire Film Archive (see separate entry). The specialised 16mm Railway collection is probably one of the finest in the UK and covers all aspects of British and world railway operations. It includes pioneer footage from the birth of the cinema, melodrama, publicity, documentary and instructional films, together with footage of amateur shot railway film records. The British history collection includes many scarce travelogue and instructional titles.
