Description
Film collections have been built up since the 1930s by the Royal London Hospital for public information, recruitment and educational purposes. The Archives and Museum has brought collections together and deposited originals at National Film and Television Archive since 1988. The medical film unit was begun c.1950 at the London Hospital and produced approximately 100 films about surgery and medicine up to the 1970s. Films also made by London Hospital Dental Film Unit and London Hospital School of Nursing. Queen Elizabeth Hospital for Children films (1930s + ) also held. Various scientific films, (USA, France, Germany, 1930s-1970s).

Access available. Mon-Fri 10.00-16.30. Staff are available to assist researchers. Access for disabled.

Charges for facilities and handling. A price list is available upon request.

Video: 30 reels/cassettes. 60% of the material is documentaries, 40% relates to science and education.Documentary, science and education.
Video components: VHS Video, lo-band U-Matic.
Film: 250 films are held, 10% of which are documentaries and 90% science and education. 50% colour film, 50% black and white film. Documentary, science and education.

Notes
A printed catalogue is being prepared. The National Film and Television Archive have prepared viewing notes for numerous medical films transferred. The London Film Archive is preparing viewing notes for the 120 films transferred in February 2000.The Wellcome Trust Catalogue features details of some of the films held there in copy form.
