POWELL-COTTON MUSEUM

Description
In the 1930s Major P. H. G. Powell-Cotton and his daughter Dr Diana Powell-Cotton made several ethnographic films in Africa, chiefly in Italian Somaliland and southern Angola, and mostly illustrating local crafts. In the 1950s and 1960s other members of the family made ethnographic and wildlife films in Kenya and Uganda. The Museum has over thirty of these films, the earliest dating from 1922 and made in the Cameroons. We have additional films from Frank Varian who was an engineer in Angola from about 1911. Films and the 20,000 photographs are available for commercial use, rates quoted on application
