MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION RESEARCH ARCHIVE (MACRA)

Description
The purpose of MACRA is to resource research and teaching in the mass media. The main holding within MACRA is an extensive newspaper archive, consisting of the national broadsheets from 1998 to date, and the national tabloids from 1992 to date. It also houses a special collection of Historic Newspapers. Its digital collection of media materials consists of all broadsheet newpapers (plus Daily Mail/Mail on Sunday) on CD-ROM from 1992 to date. Special collections of media broadcast materials include political media coverage from 1992-1993; and broadcast news coverage on BBC 1, ITV and Channel 4 from 1996-1998.

Sound
MACRA’s Sound Archive consists mainly of television and radio output. It has currently (October 2000) documented approximately 400 items on its computerised database, including news, film, documentaries, soaps and advertisements. Documentation of the actual collection, however, continues to expand the database at regular intervals.
