Description
Barnardo’s image archive dates back to the early 1870’s, and is a unique and rich resource of images that depicts British family life, street scenes, poverty and Barnardo’s history of childcare in the Victorian period.

Barnardo’s offer the image industry approximately 60,000 images, dating from 1872 too 1905. Personal visits to the archive are not possible but staff images can be sent either by post, ISDN, orE-mail, depending upon the researcher’s needs.

The collection comprises 150 films dating back to 1905 regarding the social history of the 20th century, focusing on children, child care and education. The collection includes material relating to emigration and the war years. Dating back to 1874, the archive contains 500,000 images and 300 films of the visual history of the organisation, including our work overseas in Canada and Australia.
