LIMERICK FILM ARCHIVE

Description
Formed in March 1992, to locate and acquire film, video and cinema material of Irish interest, with particular emphasis on items relating to the mid-West region (Limerick and Clare counties). Since its inception, the Archive has been successful in acquiring over 100 film titles (both 35mm and 16mm), over 800 hours of video material, a large file on local and national cinemas (their history, photographs, programmes and related memorabilia, etc.). The Archive also has the largest collection of data and stills on Irish film players in Ireland. All archive holdings were purchased or donated.
Artefact description
Prints and tapes of many Irish and Irish related films that are exclusive to our collection i.e the IFI Archive in Dublin does not have these and we do loan out such film to them and others on request. We also have a number of old 35 and 16mm projectors in our equipment holdings Kalee / Westar / Bell and Howell / Elf / Elmo Shinkyo to name some

Access
All access is by appointment only and we do encourage researchers and film buffs to come visit or email in their requests. We do have 2 or 3 OPEN DAYS in the year and we invite guests to see the collection in our 20 seater cinema. Access for disabled.

Notes
The above mentioned catalogues are basic in design and layout; photocopies can be made available to researchers. A computerised database will be available from summer 2001.
Other information
Large collection of posters, stills, press packs, production notes on the films and videos held, for reference, etc. Large reference library on Irish cinema also, with an ongoing collection on the history of cinemas in Ireland.
Conservation policy
To continue our research and to save as much film and related material from destruction which is still the fate of so much of our film heritage.
