FRANK SMITH ‘GRIMSBY FILM PRESERVATION SOCIETY’
- Description
- An extensive collection of 16mm film, obtained from second-hand dealers, or from the families of the person who shot the films, dating from 1903 onwards. Most of the films have been reprinted in the form of documentaries with magnetic sound tracks and music etc. In some cases the music was composed especially. There is also 16mm material from the Hull area. Negatives from much of the material are also available. Some of the collection has been used by Anglia Television, the BBC, Channel Four, Yorkshire Television and Sky Television.

Film: The collection includes amateur films made in the mid-1920s. One full length feature, The Last Adventurers, which was made in 1937 in Grimsby. The editing was done by David Lean. Stars: Niall McGinnis, Kay Walsh and Linden Travers. Cleethorpes material discovered at the Theatre Royal, Cleethorpes prior to its demolition in 1963. Dates from early 1900s to late 1930s.
