Description

Clips and Footage is a comprehensive film library made up of thousands of hours of archive and modern colour imagery. Collections include aviation from the early days of flight to contemporary commercial and military aircraft; transport footage which covers ocean liners, trucks and cars; archive science and business; Americana, featuring American social history from the turn of the century up the the 60s. All human life is here: how the age of space travel influenced everything from domestic appliances to automobiles, WW2 home front, food, education, drug abuse, propaganda films and crazes such as the hula hoop. Contemporary footage includes 35mm and 16mm world locations and time-lapse cityscapes, landscapes, flowers and clouds. Special collections: 1) The Hollywood Collection: Clips and Footage holds the largest feature film trailer archive in the UK, many feature films, silent comedies and cartoons, many films covering the history of production in Hollywood with screen tests of James Dean, Bacall and Audrey Hepburn, interviews with stars and directors, extensive collections on Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Elvis and James Dean among many others plus the filming of many feature films. There is also a terrific B-movie archive and a sci-fi library. 2) The News Collection: Material on world events and historical personalities such as Eva and Juan Peron, Gandhi, Franco, Krushchev banging the desk at the UN!, Helen Keller, Jack Benny, Hitler, Henry Ford, Nixon, Burt Lancaster, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, Generals Patton and MacArthur, de Gaulle, J Edgar Hoover and the FBI, Edison, all major wars and conflicts including a rare collection on the Korean War, disasters, sport, fashion. 3) New Collections: the famous Mountbatten Collection of amateur films from the 20s and 30s
showing aristocratic life and many famous personalities; a fabulous new slice of British social history with footage from the 20s right up to the 60s featuring everything from greyhound racing to a reconstruction of a nuclear accident.
