David Lean and Gaumont Sound News is a short-term research project funded by the David Lean Foundation. It will add the history of one of the earliest British sound newsreels to the British Universities Newsreel Database (BUND) as well as providing valuable context to the early career of David Lean, one of Britain’s greatest film directors, who began his film career as editor on the newsreel for about a year from April 1930 before moving to edit British Movietonews. The researcher on the project is Linda Kaye, previosuly Senior Researcher on the Cinemagazines and the Projection of Britain project.
