BUFVC launches federated search environment

Today the BUFVC is pleased to launch the BUFVC federated search environment. The pioneering ‘all-in-one’ search engine will provide users access to nine of the BUFVC online databases, containing over 16 million records (updated amount November 2012), via a single entry point.

The BUFVC federated search environment will allow researchers to easily view collated results relating to film, television and radio content, through a clean design and user-friendly icons. Users will also benefit from innovative and interactive online research tools including ‘human-friendly’ result filters, intelligently generated ‘related records & searches’, a detailed user history and export functions.

The search environment will transform moving image and sound resource discovery by replacing the need for researchers to locate databases and collections through multiple channels. It will enable creative discovery of content by opening up collections and connecting users with resources they were not previously aware of.

The BUFVC federated search environment is the result of a collaborative project between the BUFVC and Royal Holloway, University of London. The research project was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) under the Digital Equipment and Database enhancement for Impact programme.
