HEFCE report on online learning
Published: 3 February 2011HEFCE’s Online Learning Task Force has just published its final report Collaborate to compete: seizing the opportunity of online learning for UK higher education. It concluded that online learning can deliver quality and be cost-effective while meeting student demands for flexible learning.
The report documents sixteen successful and diverse case studies of institutional and consortia provision, with varying combinations of online, blended and on-campus UK experience, that provide models for competing with overseas and private institutions in the provision of higher education courses.
Recommendations made to institutions and the wider HE sector include: using online learning to enhance student choice; realignment training and development; developing and exploiting open educational resources.
