Creative Commons publishes report on definition of ‘non-commercial use’

A report has recently been published by Creative Commons that details the results of a research study into the differences between ‘commercial’ and ‘non-commercial’ use of content found online, as understood by various communities and in relation to a wide variety of content. Creative Commons provides free copyright licences to creators who want to grant the public certain permissions to use their work, in advance and without the need for one-to-one contact between the user and creator. ‘Non-commercial’ is one of four licence terms that creators may choose to apply to CC-licensed content.
