EUscreen and Metadata

Metadata quality, interoperability, standardised access – all these are buzzwords commonly used and agreed on as being vital for resource discovery in the digital heritage sector. But what do these words actually mean?

More specifically, what do they mean to us in the context of the EUscreen project?

Euscreen and Metadata

The ‘EUscreen and Metadata’ document, compiled by Eve-Marie Oesterlen (BUFVC) with input from Jean-Pierre Evain (EBU), Elaine Sheppard (SASE) and Marco Rendina (Istituto Luce Cinecittà), gives a concise overview of how EUscreen have devised their metadata schema, what standards it is based on, and how EUscreen support the principles of open access. It also offers some illustrative samples of the EUscreenXL metadata model that is used to describe the rich variety of audiovisual content that is shown on the EUscreen portal.
