Cornish Story: Cornwall’s Living Archive
This site is an initiative of the Cornish Audiovisual Archive (CAVA), which seeks to use oral history, music, photography and film to interpret the story of Cornwall, past and present. CAVA is a collection of recordings related to Cornwall, covering agriculture, brass bands, geographical communities, identity, kinship, mining, politics and religion. Narratives of the Family features oral and video interviews that explore cultural memory and family storytelling; Family Farming and Tradition looks at the changes in traditional agricultural ways of life from the late 19th Century to the present day; Mystic Cornwall is an audio resource concerning the links between Cornwall’s ‘mystical past’; and identity politics and Cornish Film features extracts from a series of films made by Cecil Baldwin during his visits to Cornwall and the South West in the 1930s. An accompanying magazine is available in the form of a downloadable pdf.

Marine Agronomy: Seaweeds Videos
Marine agronomy is the science of farming seaweeds for human and animal food, fibre, bioenergy and other useful by-products. This resource is produced by the Marine Agronomy Community, who aim to promote the possibility of industrial-scale seaweed farming. The site includes a small collection of videos about seaweed cultivation, which explore how it can be used as a biofuel and a fertiliser, as well as content produced by the Connecticut Sea Grant looking at the biology and life cycle of various seaweeds, including Gracilaria, Porphyra, Chondrus and Kelp.

UN Web TV
News and information from the United Nations is provided ‘live and on demand’, by this site which features a broad range of video and audio material covering the entire history of the organisation from the 1940s to the present day. Recent events are covered by the ‘Live Now’ and ‘Meetings and Events’ section, featuring daily coverage from the Security Council, General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, as well as Conferences, briefings and other events from the United Nations Headquarters in New York and the UN Office in Geneva. Older material can be found in the ‘News and Features’ and ‘Topics and Issues’ sections, where users can filter their search by Observer, Member State, and a range of topics including Agriculture, AIDS, Health, Human Rights, Refugees, Terrorism, Water and Women. A separate resource – the Audiovisual Library of International Law (AVL) – comprises a range of radio and video material documenting the history of major international legal instruments, with footage of negotiations, Conventions, and Declarations, together with a selection of interviews with. All the material is freely available.

Virtual Vietnam Archive
The Virtual Vietnam Archive contains over four million pages of scanned materials, including documents, photographs, slides, negatives, oral histories, artifacts, moving images, sound recordings, maps, and collection finding aids. The resource is part of the Vietnam Center and Archive at Texas Tech University. The focus of the material tends to be personal, rather than official in nature: eg. photographs, letters home and home movies. Non-copyrighted material which has been digitised is freely available for users to download. The audiovisual materials pages alone includes over 650 donated digitised films as well as material generated by the Vietnam Center and Archive itself: lectures, conference proceedings and interviews. The donated films include items from various collections, much of it originally filmed on 8mm or 16mm film. The films can be viewed in MP4 format or downloaded as MP4s or WMV files. To search for specific topics in the moving image collection, users are directed to the Virtual Vietnam Archive search page, where researchers will also find more information about the many collections which comprise the archive. To enable navigation of such a huge resource the archive has provided a Research help page, which includes subject guides, links to various search pages and focused browse pages eg. Browse the Digitized Audio and the Oral History page.

York Student Television
Run by students, for students at the University of York, YSTV, produces a wide range of live and pre-recorded programmes, including news programmes, quiz shows and sitcoms, coverage of events on campus, and interviews with bands, politicians and celebrities. Material with a more academic outlook includes the series Past to Present, which looks at the history of York, and the Maths Society Lectures page. A small selection of digitised clips from the station’s Archives offers an interesting look at the history of YSTV, which dates back to the 1970s.
