This American site provides a range of resources, ideas, news and articles aimed at helping students and teachers use technology for teaching and learning. There are articles and lists on the Best technology which provide guidance about tablets, laptops, apps etc. for use in education. The site’s Online learning page presents articles about current issues, including MOOCs, STEM learning, facilitating online discussion and Big Data and higher education. The site is nicely presented and many of the articles feature creatively used infographics. A video page rounds-up potentially useful clips, talks and lectures and other educational video material available online.

Fisher Scientific Media Lab
Thermo Fisher Scientific is a biotechnology and laboratory supplies company. They stream a selection of video content on the Media Lab page of their website, and although a high proportion of this is promotional material for lab equipment, there are also videos which could be used in an educational context. These include lectures and seminars by the likes of Professor Robert Winston, Heinz Wolff, Judith Hann and gerontologist Aubrey de Grey. The videos are all free to view.

Lyrikline
Multi-lingual German poetry website featuring over 9000 poems read by over 900 poets. Many of the poems also include translations which can be read as parallel texts to the original, while the user listens to the poem being read. The site includes major poets from the early 20th century, such as Paul Celan and W.B.Yeats, as well as a wide-range of contemporary poets. Users can filter their search by country, language, genre (eg, political poetry, narrative poetry), subject, and poetic form.

Pulse Project
This free online resources specialises in the sciences and medical humanities and produces a range of podcasts aimed at both a general and specialised audience. The site hosts the following weekly podcasts: Math/Maths which is a weekly conversation between a British and an American mathematician; Strange Quarks, which looks at science and politics, as well as the stranger fringes of pseudoscience; and the Pulse Project, which is a round-up of the latest science news. Elsewhere on the site there are Videos and Lectures and the online audio encyclopedia Expert Explanations, which is aimed at undergraduates and gives four to eight minute introductions to key terms and theories in the medical humanities and sciences.

Videos of Chemical Reactions
This series of video clips demonstrating chemical reactions was made to accompany Shriver and Atkins’ Inorganic Chemistry, a standard undergraduate textbook published by Oxford University Press. The videos are freely available in Flash player. Each group of videos is linked according to the relevant chapter in the textbook and is accompanied by explanatory text and chemical equations on the OUP website. Amongst the subjects covered are acids and bases, catalysis, oxidation and reduction and hydrogen.
