Multicultural Shakespeare in Britain

Multicultural Shakespeare: 1930-2010 is a three- year, AHRC-funded research project based at the University of Warwick’s Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies. Collaborating with theatres around the country, it will build a database of British black and Asian Shakespearean performances (BBA Shakespeare) as well as an oral history archive of interviews with actors, directors and audience members. The project aims to map the history of non-white actors’ and directors’ growing role in British cultural lifeover several generations – by examining their involvement in the performance and re-interpretation of Shakespeare’s plays. And article on the project will also be published in the next issue of BUFVC’s Viewfinder quarterly magazine, out in December.
