History of Philosophy podcast series
Collection of talks by Peter Adamson, Professor of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy at King’s College London, who takes the listener through a comprehensive series of 88 lectures on classical and medieval western philosophic thought, from Thales and other Presocratic philosophers, through Socrates, Plato and Aristotle and other examples of Classical Greek philosophy, to Hellenistic schools of thought such as Epicureanism and Stoicism, covering such thinkers as Seneca, Cicero and Galen, up to Plotinus and the Neoplatonists. The podcasts are in MP3 format and can be streamed or downloaded.

Linnean Society of London
The Linnean Society of London is a learned society dedicated to the study of taxonomy and natural history and named after the the Swedish naturalist Carolus Linnaeus. As its website says, the society “uniquely embraces the entire sweep of natural history [and] promotes the study of all aspects of the biological sciences, with particular emphasis on evolution, taxonomy, biodiversity and sustainability”. The website hosts a number of podcasts, which, although fairly small in number, cover a wide range of subjects from Sir David Attenborough’s Darwin Lecture from November 2011 on Alfred Russel Wallace and The Birds of Paradise, to science, politics and policy on biodiversity and climate change, encompassing important current trends in biodiversity and conservation as well as the broad sweep of natural history since the 18th century.

An offshoot of the Museum of the Moving Image website, this resource provides articles on film, television, and digital media by leading critics and scholars, as well as links to other online resources, arranged according to the following categories: Criticism and Theory, History, Industry, People and Technology. There are also links to online film catalogues, archives and databases. The latest issue offers a series of video essays on Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’, in honour of the film’s status as ‘Greatest Film of All Time’ according to the latest Sight & Sound critics’ poll.

Podcasting GoetheThe results of a project carried out by the Department of German Studies at the University of Warwick, these podcasts feature Goethe’s early poetry read by Berlin-based actor Christian Werwerka. The podcasts are accompanied by the text of the original poem and an English translation.

SnagFilms
Website offering over 3,000 streamed films, which are available to view for free and supported by advertising. Most of the content is documentary but there are some fiction and feature films. The site is searchable by subject and by channel, or production company and the films include synopses and credits. There is also a ‘Filmanthropy’ section where films are arranged thematically according to their power to inspire or enlighten the viewer and all the films are linked to related charitable causes. Due to licensing agreements not all the films are available to viewers in the United Kingdom.

Royal Society of Chemistry
The RSC’s website contains a number of video resources and educational aids. The videos are mostly aimed at schools but there is a useful higher education section providing guidance on courses, careers, online resources, grants and funding.
